When you are selling your house, you have to really look at it objectively and think about it from the viewpoint of the house hunter. A great place to start is with the front of the home and the main entryway. Winter Curb Appeal

The Curb Appeal of your property is the buyers first impression, hands down.  Making it count is even more important during the holidays and in the winter when snow, rain, cold temperatures and shorter days can turn off the hardiest Canadians.  Here are some things to keep in mind when preparing your home's exterior for a winter sale:Winter Fun
  • Safety First.  The last thing you want to see is an accident en-route to your front door.  Prevent slips by keeping your driveway, walkways and stairs clear of snow, ice and leaves.  Huge rain puddles?  Try your best to clear those as well.   There's nothing worse (for the buyer and for your floors) than trailing through a house in soaking wet feet!
  • A Well Maintained Lawn.  Whether your lawn is green, winter 'brown' or covered in a blanket of the white stuff, keep it picture perfect and clear of debris.  Buyers will have an easier time imagining how their new yard will shape up in the summertime.
  • Rooftops and gutters.  Clean gutters and a well maintained rooftop can be a sure sign that the property has been cared for.  Excessive snowfall and ice storms can wreak havoc on your roof.  The last thing you need to be doing is getting to know your neighbourhood roofer.  Icicles can be a concern as well.  Not only can  falling icicles be a hazard to anyone underneath, but they can suggest bigger problems within the structure of your home.  So look up, way up and show buyers a well maintained house.
  • Outdoor lighting.  The days are shorter and proper outdoor lighting is essential to make your house more appealing ( and visible ) to buyers who drove by or visit after dark.  Draw the buyers' eye to your welcoming front door by guiding them along a path of simple outdoor path lights.  An attractive wall sconce or tow at the front door will complete the welcoming appeal.
  • Winter decorations. Once the holidays are over, it's time to take down your Christmas decorations. Let buyers know that you are on top of things and take them down soon after the holidays.  Consider swapping out the traditional Christmas wreath with a more generic seasonal wreath or by adding attractive planter pots filled with branches, plants, shrubbery and other winter elements.
